TLH National Top Club Champions 2006
The ladies team from Consett Park Bowling Club triumphed at the finals of the TLH National Top Club Championship, held in Torquay.
Over two days of intense competition, the club won through to the final where they beat Bridport Bowling Club, from Dorset, to take the title.
Consett won the final by beating Bridport 21-20 in the singles, 17-8 in the triples and 23-13 in the fours, having lost the pairs. Over the last five months, 850 clubs from around the country battled it out to reach the last eight in the competition, which is organised by the English Women's Bowling Association.
In order to get to the final stages the ladies had to win through six qualifying rounds against clubs from Spennymoor, Durham City, Hundens in Darlington, Lyndhurst at Low Fell, South Derbyshire and Park Ladies in Lincolnshire.
At Torquay in the quarter-finals Consett beat Lee-on-Solent from Hampshire 3-1, in the semi-finals they beat Welford from Warwickshire 3-1 and in the final they beat Bridport from Devon 3-1.
