The Winship League
In 1987 Consett Park Bowling Club Ladies Section joined the Winship League, winning the league in their first season.

History
The inaugural meeting of the Winship League was held on 25th October 1978.
The first season was 1979, when the following teams took part:
Wearmouth
Houghton Dairy Lane
Hetton Park
Boldon
Barnes Park
Thorney Close
By 1983 there were 9 clubs in the league. Barnes Park had dropped out, and the following had joined:
Herrington club
Roker Park
Grindon
Pennywell
In 1984 Ryhope joined the league.
in 1987 Consett Park joined the league.
Over the years Annfield Plain, Dawdon Welfare, Sherburn Park, Silksworth, Houghton complex, Lowhills, Lyndhurst, Hetton Workmen’s & Easington joined the league and there were about 16 clubs in.
Mr Winship was a baker in Houghton-le-Spring, and donated the Winship League Trophy.
There also used to be a Gala day where each club entered 4 players and played during 1 day, with lunch and tea available, but this petered out about 10 to 15 years ago.
