The event was fully subscribed, with twelve teams taking part. The format ensured that each team was guaranteed a minimum of five games, with the winners playing seven games in total.

Jim Ruddick, the Club President, presented the runners-up and the winners with their prize money and trophies.
Runners-up: D. Barnes (Leadgate), M. Mordue (Leadgate), D. Ross (Leadgate)

Mal Evans Coaching Session
In 2021, Consett Park Bowling Club participated in the Bowls England Big Weekend. In doing so they went into the hat for the Bowls England Big Weekend Prize Draw.
Consett Park were pulled out first, and the the prize included a £400 credit towards the club’s kit order for 2022, provided generously by Aceit Sportswear – Bowls England’s official clothing partner.

Also included was a tailored coaching session for club members with Bowls England’s Mal Evans, the first Level 3 qualified coach through the Coach Bowls programme.
The coaching session took place on the morning of Saturday 30th April 2022, on a warm, sunny morning at Consett Park Bowling Club. Mal Evans delivered an excellent training session, which was both informative and enjoyable.
The photos below were taken by Dan McNeill during the training session.
President's Team vs Chairman's Team
After a break for lunch, when the club's members were able to enjoy bacon or sausage butties, a match took place between a team chosen by the Club President (Jim Ruddick) and a team chosen by the Club Chairman (John Mitchell), reviving a tradition that started in the 1920s.
The temperature was a few degrees lower than in the morning, but the games were concluded before the heavy rain.
The match finished in a narrow victory for the Chairman's team. The new trophy, generously donated to the club by the President, was presented to the winning captain.
After the match the Club's members were able to enjoy a drink and cakes, concluding a busy but very enjoyable and educational day.
Thank you
Thanks go to all those involved, including our guests Mal Evans (Bowls England) and Foster Johnson (from Bowls Durham), and all those involved in arranging the events, setting up the rinks, taking photographs, providing and delivering the food and drink, tidying up, etc. In short, thank you to everyone; it was a great team effort.
Australian Para Jackaroos
Published 26th April 2022
Our guests Helen Boardman and Peter Doherty, from the Australian Para Jackaroos team, had some practice sessions at the Club in April 2022.
Sunday 24th April was their last day with us, and there was a good turnout of Club members. Helen and David Harris competed against Teresa Pearson and Derek Metcalfe in a close game. The score was 15 – 15 after 15 ends.
Helen and Peter are pictured with Club members…
…and with Jim Ruddick (President), Ann Mitchell (Secretary) and John Mitchell (Chairman).
It was a great pleasure to meet Helen and Peter. We hope their time with us helped their training programme, and we wish them well in the Commonwealth Games.
