Memory Lane

Memory Lane

Come walk with me.

Such a lonely place.

No towers now.

My children face.

The smoke is gone.

My saviour’s cost.

Of valiant workers.

And building’s lost.

Now travel just down.

Yes, a little more.

See hated heaps.

Those diggers tore.

But these my friend.

“Blue” land we save.

Long working hours.

Your parents gave.

A walk on further.

The mines “no more.”

Your greatest love.

Our era saw.

But love you Consett.

Never gone or past.

You stay forever.

My soul to last.
