The Skip
by David Harris
The Skip
The skip said “you’re heavy”
I knew that already
Too many pizzas and burgers.
The skip said “you’re short”
But the heels that I bought
Are definitely banned from the green.
The skip said “you’re tight”
On that one he’s right
I’m too skint to buy him a drink.
The skip said “more green”
That remains to be seen
Club colours are yellow and blue.
The skip said “jack high”
I thought, with a sigh
Why not the king or the ace?
But the skips always right,
He told me last night
Last week, last month and last year.
Addendum
Any budding poets are invited to add additional verses, in the same format.
Here are a few more...
The skip said "A yard"
Now I'm not a bard
But at least I found something that rhymed.
The skip said "You're shot"
I liked that a lot
Even though I was three yards away!
The skip said "More grass"
On that one I'll pass
There's a drug test at quarter past three
The skip said "Four down"
I felt like a clown
But if Skip takes the jack back we're laughing
Skip asked "How's your memory?"
Well, I remember Dick Emery
But not how I bowled to the jack
