6th July 1972 Steel News

Local Bowls League RecordA RINK of bowlers comprising of steelworkers at Consett believe that they have set a up a record for local bowls leagues.Mr Harry Halkyard (retired employee), Mr Joe Scarr (brickworks foreman), Mr Bill Hume (accounts) under the leadership of skip, Mr Les Inglis (brickworks foreman) were actually leading 27-0 at ten ends in a recent North West Durham Bowls League match. They failed to keep up their devastating form, but still managed to win 33-15.Mr Inglis, a regular trophy winner and former County played, claimed "It must be quite a unique achievement. We have made enquires throughout the N.W. Durham league and other local leagues and to date have not met with a similar ten ends score. I suppose it would have been more unique if we had gone through the entire 21 ends without conceding a point."The high scoring foursome are shown going into action at their Consett Park green.
