75th Anniversary

On 20th June 1998 the Consett Advertiser reported on the Club's 75th anniversary.

Bowlers mark anniversary

BOWLERS from Consett have been granted a rare honour to celebrate the club's 75th anniversary with a visit from the National President of the English Bowling Association.

John Ades will bring his own select side up to play at Consett Park Bowling Club on Friday, June 26, at 2pm.

Alan Jones, of the Consett club, said "It's the heart of our anniversary celebrations and as far as I am aware, it's our first ever visit."

Founded in 1923, the club has 100 members aged from 11 to 95-year-old, and still has at least one founder member alive.

A number of special events and competitions have been organised to mark the anniversary, including a visit from associations as far afield as Somerset and Bedfordshire.
