Walker Cup Winners
In 2009 Durham County won the Walker Cup, the Women's National Inter-County Two Fours Competition.
The County side consisted of two rinks of four players, playing 21 ends, two bowls each player.
One of the rinks was made up of players from Consett Park Bowling Club - Gill Jones, Teresa Pearson, Trudy Kitto and Ann Bernard.
Durham knocked out favourites Kent in the semi-finals 51-29, then went on to beat Warwickshire in the final.
The Northern Echo report quoted Teresa Pearson, who had already won the Women's National 55 and Over Singles Competition:
"As much as winning the singles gave me a great feeling, the teams success really put the top on it.
"Kent had bus loads of supporters who made lots of noise for semi-finals. All you could see on the side of the green was the mountain of balloons they had brought.
"By the time the game was half over they were very quiet and the balloons were all but flat."
There is an interesting article about the Walker Cup on the Surrey County Womens Bowling Association website:
