Lawn Tennis replaces Bowling at the Cricket Club
On 29th May 1903, The Durham County Advertiser reported that the bowling green owned by the Consett and District Cricket Club was to be rented to a new lawn tennis club.
LAWN TENNISNEW CLUB FOR CONSETTAn adjourned conference of the members of the Consett and District Cricket Club and the members of the proposed lawn tennis club was held at Blackhill when the secretaries (Messrs Ernest Wilson and E. Robinson) reported that they had secured sufficient members to warrant the establishment of a Lawn Tennis club, and they would undertake to pay the rent demanded by the cricket club for the use of the Bowling Green as a tennis lawn, and to provide the necessary nets, &c. It was agreed to make a start with the club on Saturday next.

Although snooker was invented in 1875, billiards was still the leading cue sport in the 1920s. It was overtaken by snooker in the 1930s.
