Fixtures List

On 10th May 1927, the Consett Guardian published the Club's fixtures for 1927 - see the transcript below.  

The fixtures included some friendly games - Darlington South Park (home and away), Smiths Dock (home) and Carlisle Subscription (away). 

Darlington South Park

The games against Darlington South Park took place every year, and some of the games are documented on these pages - the June 1927 match and the June 1929 match.

Smiths Dock

Smiths Dock was probably Smith's Dock Bowling Club in Normanby, Middlesbrough. Their website describes the formation of the club, which has parallels with the formation of our own Club:

"Smith's Dock Bowling Club came into being when, in 1920,  Smith's Dock Shipbuilders benevolently established sporting facilities that included football pitches, tennis courts, children's play areas, two bowling greens and a social club on the site in Normanby  known to all as Smith's Dock Park.

Their objective was to encourage their employees to partake in sports and live an active, healthy lifestyle.

Smiths Dock Shipbuilders owned and fully maintained these facilities until 1986 when, with the demise of shipbuilding in the area, the company closed and sold off all its assets, including the recreational facilities, to local firms."

Carlisle Subscription

In June 1927, the Consett Guardian reported in its "Did you know?" column:

"That several members of the Consett Park Bowling Club are looking forward to a most enjoyable outing on Monday?

That the club has been successful in arranging a fixture with that noted bowling organisation, the Carlisle Subscription Club - one of the best-known clubs in the country?

That it is expected that a party numbering over 30 will make the journey to the ancient city of Carlisle?" 

Carlisle Subscription Bowling Club dates back to 1865.
