North West Durham League

This report is from the Newcastle Journal and North Mail dated 6th November 1939.

A team from Consett Park won the League rink cup - W Charlton, J Wilkinson, R Alsop, and H Hornsby.

Two of the North West Durham committee were from Consett Park - Ralph Alsop and J W Lake.

N. W. DURHAM BOWLSA slight loss on the year’s working was reported at the annual meeting of the North-West Durham Bowls League. Winners of the various competitions in  the past season were:-Saturday League Cup, South Moor Park; Mid-Week League Cup, Tanfield Moor Welfare; League rink cup, W Charlton, J Wilkinson, R Alsop, and H Hornsby (Consett Park); League pairs, J Leeman and R Battersby (Dipton Park); League singles, J Rutherford (South Moor Park).Officers elected were: President R Alsop (Consett Park); chairman, J G Parker (Annfield Plain); vice-chairman, R Reay (Pelton Fell Park); secretary and treasurer, J W Lake (Consett Park).

In Other News - Football

Consett's football team were playing in the North-Eastern League, and had just recorded a 5-0 win against Blyth Spartans. Consett fielded nine Football League players. After three games Consett were top of the league, although two other clubs had the same number of points. 

Blyth Spartans were outclassed by a Consett side which included no fewer than nine Football League players. Consett won 5-0 and three of their goals were obtained by Farrage (Birmingham) in the second half. Harvey (Newport County) opened the scoring. Billy Baron, the Blackburn goalkeeper, helped Consett as did Shiel (Huddersfield). Temple was their other marksman.
